Sesame was traditionally utilised as a source of oil (for example, to power oil lamps), but it also had other purposes. However, in its purest form, sesame was utilised by the Greek army as an energy-boosting snack for troops in ancient times.

Create your own sesame oil

  • Once the oil is hot, remove the saucepan from the heat and carefully pour the mixture into an electric mixer.
  • Mix the ingredients on a medium speed for one to two minutes or until the seeds are cracked.
  • After blending the ingredients, leave them in the blender for 45 minutes to two hours. The sesame oil will rise to the top, and the cooking oil will lie in the shells, which you can easily separate afterwards.
